Seafood Industry Victoria is the peak body for the Victorian commercial fishing industry. In our capacity as the peak body we liaise with State government, media, environmental groups and other marine stakeholders on behalf of our member's best interests. Seafood Industry Victoria is a non-profit organisation whose members are involved in the harvesting, processing, wholesaling, retailing and exporting of seafood in Victoria.
The major role of Seafood Industry Victoria is to disseminate the flow of information from these groups to industry and provide appropriate responses and to keep the lines of communication open between the commercial fisherman and government. On behalf of industry we respond to a range of subjects including fisheries legislation, licensing and access issues, development and licensing of new fisheries, marine parks, fisheries management plans, native title, quota allocation, environmental issues, introduction of quality assurance programs, representation on industry training boards, developing educational materials for school students and the general public, research and development applications, media inquiries, press releases and marketing and promotion of seafood products.
SIV has a Board of Directors that are appointed at the annual general meeting each year. The Board of Directors is representative of both the primary (catching) sector fisheries and secondary (post harvest) sectors of the fishing-seafood industry. There are also various industry committees that operate under the direction of the Board of Directors.
Seafood Industry Victoria will continue building and informing a united and ecologically sustainable and thriving seafood industry valued by the Victorian community. Our mission is, "to continue building a united, ecologically sustainable and thriving seafood industry valued by the Victorian community."
Our strategic plan lays out SIV's long-term goals and will guide us to measure how far we have come towards achieving our goals and to recognize where we need to adjust our approaches or directions to achieve better results. In addition, the Plan provides a basis from which SIV can focus on the highest priority and ensure that we represent our members to the best of our ability.
